toboggan
A long narrow sled.
totem pole
A tall wooden pole with animal faces carved on it.
wampum
Small white beads made from shells.  It was used as money.
tribe
A large group of families that are related.
chickee
A house with a roof and no walls.  It is built on stilts.
wigwam
A house made of bent poles and covered with tree bark.
igloo
A house shaped like a dome and it is made with hard snow or ice blocks.
travois
A sled pulled by dogs or a horse.  It was used to carry people and their things.
clan
A group of the same family.
moccasins
Shoes or boots made from animal skins. 
pictograph
A symbol (sign) that was drawn to mean a person, object or event.
canoe
A narrow boat made of wood and sometimes covered with animal skin.
cradle board
A wooden board made to carry a baby.
farmers
People who grow their own food.
gatherers
People who go out and pick and find their food.
hut
A house made of dried grass or straw.
kachina
A spirit that the Hopi believed in.
cedar plank house (lodge)
A large wooden house where many families lived.
long house
A long house made of bent poles and tree bark.  It had no windows. Many families live there.
pueblo
A Hopi village where all the houses are made of clay and rock.
tepee
A tent shaped like a cone.  It is made of tall poles and covered with animal skin.
kayak
A long narrow boat for one or two people.  It can roll over in the water and pop back up.
caribou
A big deer with fuzzy antlers.
adobe
Dried clay and rocks.
